Pressed, oven-safe, glass lids were once as common as cast iron. Our grandparents all had them. But like cast iron, this technology has been replaced by cheaper and inferior products. Some glass lids currently available will not withstand high oven temperatures. Borosilicate will.
Borosilicate glass is oven glass—thick, durable, and safe for use at baking temperatures, often sold as PYREX in the past.

12” restaurant grade glass lid
I bought the restaurant grade 12” glass lid and I love it! It has a thick, durable feel and fits the Joan very well. It’s also a very classic looking piece, which is a plus for me. Being restaurant grade, it does have some small imperfection. These imperfection do not effect the function and hardly effects the aesthetic. In addition the brass handle is just the cherry on top, adding to that classic, durable feel of this lid.

You can feel the craftsmanship in this. Got one for myself and then for a gift. The food looks so cool too cooking underneath. Wish all glass lids were build like this. Highly recommend.
